NEWS FROM VOVINAM, WASHINGTON

On September 15th, 2001
(Saturday), at the Emerald International Open Martial Arts Championship
(Lincoln High School, Tacoma Washington), Vovinam-Vietvodao Association of Washington,
Tacoma branch won two first place trophies.
According to Master Tuan Anh: “This is the first time Vovinam of
Washington joins the big tournament of all style of martial arts in USA.” He
said, “Many masters and audiences came to congratulate us.” According to Master
Lieu – the organizer of the event, this is the largest martial arts
championship with the best competitors from the Pacific Northwest.
This year, the Vovinam-Vietvodao
Association of Washington, under the leadership of Master Tuan Anh,
participated modestly in two division: Creative Weapons – Black Belt division
and Team Demo. division. The intention
is to measure and to learn the necessary experience to come out in larger
numbers in future events.

“Tinh Hoa Luong Nghi” sword form
Demo Team: 1st Place with Leg-attack techniques – competitors:
Tram An, Hoai Nguyen, Lisa Trujillo, Ngon, Son Hai, Bao Lam, Michael Tran, and
Nam Dong.
Much recognition to Instructor Thuan
Nguyen, Instructor Phuoc Huynh and the Orchid Lion Dance team for their
exceptional performance during the Opening Ceremony. Recognition is given to Hieu Tram, Instructor Yung Dam, Assist.
Master Tra My, Senior Instructor Mai Thai, Master Linh Thai, and Instructors:
Thuan, Hai, Minh, & Tri from Seattle branch and all students of Tacoma
branch who came to support fellow students during this competition.
This
is a small but encouraging success for the development of Vovinam-Vietvodao
discipline in Washington State. The event
was presented by the World League of Martial Arts and sponsored by Golden
Master.
